As a Technical Lead on this project I was faced with the new challenge of managing not only my own progress but the progress of my fellow programmers as well.
At the start of the project I had assumed that creating a list of tasks and creating general updates was enough to keep everyone busy and up to speed. However I quickly learned that people are not always willing to take initiative or ask for help.Â
Because of this, we quickly switched to a more hands on system, assigning tasks to people directly and checking in on individual progress twice a week to ensure everyone was comfortable and doing what they should be.
This was a fun way to practice my own technical skills, as well as improve soft skills such as communication and organisation, from a new perspective.
